Udaipur: To provide relief to farmers who have suffered losses due to natural disasters and have been unable to repay loans on time, the Rajasthan government had passed the 'Rajasthan State Farmers' Loan Relief Commission Bill-2023' in August. Under this bill, the Rajasthan government established the 'RajasthanStateFarmers' LoanReliefCommission.' Former Vice-Chancellor of Maharana Pratap Agriculture and Technology University, Udaipur, Dr. Narendra Singh Rathore, has been appointed as a member of this commission.Itisworthnotingthatduringhis tenureasVice-Chancellor, Dr. Rathore made commendable contributions to the field of agricultural education and rural development across the state. His efforts in the field of agricultural education and innovation in rural areas were widely recognized.Asatokenofappreciation, he was previously honored with the title of the state's best Vice-Chancel lor by Rajasthan Governor's Office. Dr. Rathore stated that in his role as a member of the commission, he aims to provide relief to farmers and protect their land from being auctioned off. He expressed his commitment to provide the government with valuable suggestions for the benefit of farmers and will work towards resolving disputes related to loans between banks and farmers. Dr. Rathore will also suggest ways for debt waiver for farmers and facilitate settlements. Furthermore, Dr. Rathore emphasized that the commission will prevent banks and financial institutions from pressuring farmers for loan recovery in cases of crop failure. Under the new provisions, farmers in distress due to crop loss can apply to the commission for loan forgiveness. Several provisions have been made in various bills, and the commission will also determine the settlement process based on the hearing with the banks. In these hearings, suggestions or orders will be given, such as extending loan installment payments or reducing interest rates.
